Healthcare is a highly innovative, lucrative, and regulated industry, which also makes it a highly litigious industry. From a legal perspective, it makes sense for practitioners to pay close attention to trends happening in health care, because so many facets of the law – litigation, compliance, data privacy – intersect there.
For the latest installment of Hanzo's Luminary Series, we wanted to find an expert who could discuss the latest healthcare litigation trends for 2022, which is why we contacted Jon Braunstein, a litigation attorney at the largest law firm in the world.
Braunstein’s litigation and investigations practice focuses heavily on class action defense, health care matters, and fraud and abuse cases. He has substantial experience representing life, health, and property insurers in complex matters seeking extra-contractual and punitive damages. He has niche experience representing managed care systems, health plans, and providers in fraud, waste and abuse investigations, and litigation under federal and state law, including the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, the False Claims Act and the California Insurance Fraud Prevention Act.
Currently, Braunstein is a member of Dentons’ Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice and a partner in the firm’s Oakland office. Jon helps clients solve business and legal problems by providing practical, business-driven advice on the challenging issues, risks, and opportunities they face. Jon also advises clients in the health care, insurance, employee benefits, financial services, technology, real estate, retail, construction, and defense industries.
Prior to joining Dentons, Jon worked at an AmLaw 100 firm where he represented a wide array of clients, including insurers (life, health, commercial property, and third-party liability), health plans, hospitals, financial services firms, tech companies, real estate and mortgage service providers, retail stores, construction project owners and contractors, global defense contractors, and businesses engaged in international shipping and commerce.
Jon has litigated cases of all shapes and sizes, including class actions, contract disputes, business torts, antitrust and unfair competition, labor and employment, non-compete and trade secret misappropriation, consumer protection, and data privacy/security matters. He has niche experience representing managed care systems, health plans and/or providers in fraud, waste, and abuse investigations and litigation under state and federal law, including ERISA, RICO, the False Claims Act, and the California Insurance Fraud Prevention Act.
Jon also has substantial experience representing insurers, including life, health, and property-casualty, in complex matters seeking extra-contractual and punitive damages. Jon has also represented technology, financial services, real estate, and health care companies in cases involving labor and employment claims, trade secret/non-compete/non-solicitation claims, compensation disputes, and alleged violations of unfair competition and false advertising laws. He has represented clients as both plaintiffs and defendants in mediations, arbitrations, court trials, and appeals in state and federal tribunals throughout California and beyond.
Because of his extensive experience in and around all facets of litigation regarding the healthcare industry, Hanzo is happy to feature Jon Braunstein in our upcoming Luminary Chat on September 28, 2022, at 1 pm EDT/ 10 am PDT, where we’ll discuss the following healthcare-related matters:
